TripleA Project Update: 2.6 Status & Changes to Release Strategy
-
Looks like there were at least two issues:
(1) DB password got borked somewhere in the config. Repeatedly got 'incorrect password' even though it appears to be passed in to the system correctly. Eventually I was able to get around this.(2) Old/bad code config was killing lobby startup. These needs a code rebuild. Waiting for that to happen. (patch: https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/commit/24173591773b6ec7cbc54d26e17229778faf842b)
Once the patch is build, I expect to have to deal with bad lobby db password again. Once that is dealt with.. should be back to normal.
-
@lafayette i can get in to both now. No people or bots in 2.5
-
@beelee How are you getting into 2.5? hehe
Seems like 2.6 lobby is up now. Did have to deal with password issue. For reference: I wound up having to set the password directly in 'application.yml', the env variable from the systemctl file did not go through cleanly. -
@lafayette same way as always : ) Ice in there now
-
@beelee 2.5 clients and 2.6 should both be connecting to 2.6 lobby.. It's not easy to tell which lobby you are in.
I'm getting a 502 bad gateway trying to connect now. Does not make sense since 2.6 lobby looks available on the server.
-
Not seeing a 502 anymore.
Though, it does look like 2.6 bots and 2.5 clients do not work together : |
We don't have much choice other than to have everyone download 2.6 -
It looks like there was a gap in testing and 2.5 clients and 2.6 bots are not compatible.
I updated the 2.5 lobby config to state that the lobby is no longer available and latest needs to be downloaded. I marked the latest 2.6 pre-releases as a release, making it available for download.
This is not quite how I envisioned 2.6 being launched, but here we are :grinning_face_with_sweat:

@lafayette
The website allows TripleA_2.6+14208_windows-64bit to be downloadedbut there are versions 14209 & 14210 that look important.
Will version 14208 work as intended?
-
The fun does continue.. seeing a 'unable to find remote' error when connecting to 2.6 bots.
I'm now focusing on rolling back to the 2.5 lobby with bots. -
Looks like the rollback is done. Need to add some bots; will get some shut-eye first and back to it in the morning.

@lafayette gave em a heads up over at A&A https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/39426/triplea-2-6
let me know if you want me to edit anything
-
@LaFayette also I can't load a saved game on a bot and a lot of games I have downloaded not showing up as a bot option.
Was able to start a game with a bot though
-
I used to be unable to run 2.5 due to an unknown reason. I am so glad with 2.6, it works.
-
Was a fun night.. Though- here is where we landed.
2.6 bots with 2.6 clients experience a startup error "remote not found" that does not let games get started.
If anyone saw otherwise, would be interested to hear about it.
The final state is that 2.6 is rolled back and that players would be downloading 2.5 as the latest and joining the 2.5 lobby. So..failed launch on this go around.
2.5 lobby is short on bots, my plan is to fix that and then look into the "remote not found" error. If I can't find it after some hours then we may put 2.6 on pause to implement the network relay technology that would eliminate bots. Previously that "remote not found" issue has been very difficult to find, hence there is a bit of a timebox on it.
-
All bots that were on 2.6 are back to 2.5 now.
We're at 5 bot servers connected to 2.5, with 4 bot instances per server. -
Hello All!
I downloaded the TripleA_2.6+14208_windows-64bit.exe file from https://triplea-game.org/download/ .
In order to play as usual, should I uninstall it and install an older version (from https://triplea-game.org/release_notes/ )?
Or are there issues for which I need to simply patiently wait?
In a nutshell, what should a simple old-man newbie player do, to keep playing and enjoy retirement?

Thank you all for your hard work!
Andreas

@andreas-rovere
If you play single player v AI do nothing, that is, stick with 2.6
If you play in the lobby revert back to 2.5 -
For reference
https://triplea-game.org/download/
Is back to version 2.5.22294 -
Thank you!
Given that I would like to play online against other players/humans, I'll go back to 2.5, and I'll download it from the link you just posted (https://triplea-game.org/download/)
which points to: https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/releases/download/2.5.22294/TripleA_2.5.22294_windows-64bit.exeI assume once 2.6 is finalised, at some point in the next few days/weeks, I will re-transition back to 2.6, right?
Thanks again!
