Compatibility with MacOS Silicon
-
Does anybody know if TripleA for Mac will be updated to a Silicon-based/Universal version? It's currently an Intel-based app, so it won't work on Silicon Macs with the release of MacOS 28. I've been playing Axis and Allies off and on for a few years now but I'm relatively new to TripleA, so sorry if this has already come up before in a different part of the forum or other forum(s).

Hi Hockey7
Triplea and macs have historically not gotten along very well. I will ping @lafayette for you as he is the lead developer.
He's not on here that frequently, so you may want to create a git issue https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/issues and ask frigoref also

Thanks! I know macs don't get along well with a lot of softwares, so I understand.

@Hockeyflyer7 this is not correct triplea is a universal app it will continue to work in mac os 27 and beyond unless they deprecate java support
-
@ubernaut is correct because TripleA is not a native mac application. TripleA runs on a Java virtual machine. The Java virtual machine is the thing that is the native application. It's a key feature of Java, the code runs on any Java virtual machine, instead of each codebase having to take into account the specifics of a native app, it's only the virtual machine that needs to do that.
With that said, there are quirks even within that "universal" virtual machine, notably for Mac OS. Not all operating system features are universal nor have the same behavior, hence 'quirks'

I believe that I am correct, you can see Apple's website about the compatibility of apps and then my screenshot below (if it loaded correctly:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/102527#updateI viewed TripleA's info and it appears to be an Intel-based app, as shown at the top of the "General" section.

Seems the installer is actually a native app.
Here is our config for future revisions:

We use 'install4j' to create the DMG installer.

@Hockeyflyer7 appreciate the concern and raising this as a potential issue. I think the bottom line is that 2.5 is now ancient. Seems the very latest will not have this issue.

@LaFayette thanks for the info!

@LaFayette u see my tag about how you cant really find the 2.7 download now?
-
@ubernaut yes. Having moving pieces that all need to be changed in order to release is further delaying that very release.
