@MirkoBruner I work on now and share them around 15th dec. Then it is basic still and needs more adjustment, good testing and ideas....

Okej: anyone more suggestions for special units?

I like to flavour the game with each player having some exclusive special units:
right now I have: ( AA meaning: a pre strike before actual battle round )
GERMANS:
-Heavy Houwitzer ( Karl GerΓt/Morser) : strong AA versus Entrenchment & fortifications
-Jet Fighter: ME-262 Schwalbe: advanced fighter : good AA versus Bombers
-Type XXI Submarine: advanced Submarine.... harder to beat by destroyers
( Flaktower: I am considering a Flaktower: fortified 3 hits AA gun: allthough only 3 were build , they seem fun for me to have )
Working on V1-V2 rockets....ITALIANS:
-Forgive me , but I cannot come up with something
except the notorious human-manned torpedoes and diving teams ...JAPANESE:
-Heavy battleship: Yamamoto: extra powerful.....
-Kamikaze planes.... AA attack on ships.... cannot be bought: limited & given
when Japan is under pressure
-Infantry +1 defense in jungle and mountains to resemble their persistence....RUSSIANS:
-Armoured train: like artillery but then with huge 5 movement, may transport 1 infantry too
-Katyusha rocket launchers: strong AA barrage against infantry
-T34: cheaper massproduced / no movement penalty & better battle performance in Winter setting....AMERICANS:
-Heavy Bomber: Flying fortess/B-17 : extra powerful bomber
-TLS/Landing ships: transporter witch 1 extra loading capacity & a 2 bombard ability at amphibious landing.
-P-38 Lightning: Fighter with +1 range....- Jetfighter: late arriving (after Germans and British ) but still: Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star
UK:
-Advanced destroyer: stronger AA-antisub depthbombs roll
-Jet Fighter: Gloster MeteorANZAC: I was thinking of some sturdy Jungle/desert unit
CANADA: ?-All Players have the ability to develop Heavy Armour
-I am working on partisans to incidentelly pop up in empty behind-the -front areas....Any more ideas of essential special units?
I like to keep the total number of units limited to keep placement in order...
but some players could have an extra option... -
Italians can have L3/35 tankette.

L3/35 tankette.
Haha, that is indeed a game changer: okej.. in:

What is this, a tank for ants? <BR>
British trooper getting friendly with an abandoned L3/35 tankette ?

-
Germans: Super-Heavy represented by King Tiger (Tiger II), would be even more powerful than Heavy Armor
ANZAC, UK, Canada: Commando, an elite Infantry unit which gets terrain bonuses and a bonus on original territory
USA: Lend-Leased units, which are built by the USA but placed by the Allied power the lend-lease is being sent to. Is otherwise the same stats as a normal unit, but has the appearance of an American unit (A UK Lend Lease Medium Armour would look like a Sherman but would be the UK colour)
Italy, Japan, some neutral nations: Tankette, a worse version of Light Armor which is slightly cheaper

(A better CV-33 image, casually stolen from Iron War) -

If you are looking for some ideas for special units... I had come up with a bunch for my Global Dominance project...
As an example...

The reason I posted this example is simply because you said you were having trouble with an idea for an Italian special unit...
The Alpini were considered some of the most elite units of the Italian army.
-
@Hepps: Mountain bonus for Italians/ Alpini.. good idea... hej your units especially the sniper, sas & alpini look really really good ... I know by now it can be difficult to get such clear and smooth result in this small 48x48 pixels ! you make them yourself? you have my interest on Global Dominance... Total War was allready impressive... ( ps: Guerilla instead of Geurilla I suppose; coming from the Spanish: Guerra = war / Guerilla : little war
)@joseph price: thnxs for suggestions.... yes I am gonna give the ANZAC a commando style unit: rangers for in the jungle & desert...... and your CV-33 is better! thnxs
-
@ebbe Just wondering wouldn't it make more sense preventing nations to use captured factories if you think realism must be present at significant level? And it would be the easiest way representing logistic.
-
@Schulz : that how I solved it now: once conquered a factory (or barracks) gets disabled... and can be reactivated by the original owner, when reconquered
A disabled factory gives some PU's to represent warbooty.. / useful material. Something like that. ( And no building of factories and Barracks outside of original territories and with minimum of 2 PU value and for big factory min of 3)I solved it differently for Refineries ( as they are the oil source in Oil-territories: as AI neglects their importance I had to let them swap when conquered... but when damaged at half fuel prodiuction . Otherwise AI players went out of fuel even when controlling enough oil-territories.)
-
Maybe the Free French could have "partisans" which would spawn in German-controlled France on occasion, meaning it would be necessary for the Germans to keep a lot of units there to hold France (because if they left it empty partisans would take back control). Also you should make it so that as soon as Paris is retaken all Vichy French territories turn Free French
-
@JOSEPH-PRINCE : I will have partisans for the russians, Yugoslavs, french and some UK pacific for in the jungle...
-
Will there be a version without oil, to overcome AI limitations?
Lots of conquered territories (by Germany) were used for conscription of cheap cannon fodder. Even for Waffen SS. Maybe this option could be present in some areas. -

Thanks, I thought they all turned out good. Yes I made them myself.

Some additional new territories you should add: Serbia-Macedonia (lower part of Yugoslavia) effectively cutting Yugoslavia in half and insuring Greece survives for at least 1 turn before German units reach it. Greece itself could also be cut into Northern Greece and Peloponnese (Southern Greece) and lastly Crete which would make the campaign there more interesting. Generally a lot of areas in the balkans (Slovakia Hungary could be made into just slovakia and hungary, Greater South Germany could be split into Czechia/Bohemia and Austria). In the pacific Borneo should be split in half between the British and Dutch into Borneo and Malaya. Back to Europe, some of the neutral nations like Turkey and Spain could be divided into multiple territories. Otherwise the map looks good. I'm excited to play it come 15 december!
-
Hej Joseph Prince, thanxs for the suggestions, yes one can easily continue eternally how to get the ultimate map concerning territories...
my first goal was to have a map with minimum chaos of stacking pieces: for this made this map where on every main territory at least 6 to 9 units can be placed in order... On the scale I choose it is allready a challenge in europe and the map is allready adapted to this with a oversized europe. To have more key points I added the cities with overflow boxes ... your suggestions make sense... but in the scale I choose I had to make choices between essential territories still playing key rolls after march / april 1941... that's why I don't have a seperate Crete for example and choose for Malta Sicily and Cyprus instead. Splitting more territories in Europe is not possible anymore with units space in this maps' scale... Borneo is still one I might consider.. -
ANOTHER HELP REQUEST: How add a condition to a WhenCapturedGoesTo- option:
I like to make a condition on this option: to check if at least one of its main
territories/or capital is still in controlof this player. So imagine for example:
All of USSR is lost but a far east territory will get liberated it is to little benefit for the Russians to get these UP's in that case better to give it to the liberator:Does anyone see a possibility to add a Condition check in a territories'When captured goes to option?( without creating a massive amount of code? )
So a combination in given Example territory:
<attachment name="conditionAttachmentUssrOwnCapital" attachTo="Russians" javaClass="RulesAttachment" type="player"> <option name="directOwnershipTerritories" value="Moscow" count="1"/> </attachment>combined with:
<attachment name="territoryAttachment" attachTo="Kamsjatka" javaClass="games.strategy.triplea.attachments.TerritoryAttachment" type="territory">
<option name="whenCapturedByGoesTo" value="British:Russians"/>
<!-- depending on condition Moscow is Russian controlled-->
<option name="whenCapturedByGoesTo" value="Americans:Russians"/>
<option name="whenCapturedByGoesTo" value="ANZAC:Russians"/>
</attachment>Any ideas / suggestions how I could solve this?
Thansk a lot and ofcourse all credits in this game for the genius fixing this
-
@ebbe also trying to make a working calender.... as having sense of time with
winters coming around is a pro

Hmm ... been lookin at this. I guess Idk how triplea works where your allies get the PUs when they liberate your TTy and your capital is occupied. I don't see any property's to activate. Maybe it's hard wired ?
Anyway, if your capital is occupied, you won't get the dough when your ally liberates one of your TTys. It'll go to the liberator.

This shouldn't be that difficult.
-
@belee: yes, it almost gets philosophical:
to what extend is liberator the new occupater?
@Hepps: indeed should be easy: but not for me: haha... as I cannot find an example I will give it a try..... hints or clues welcome

(--> my approach: to make transparant months and seperate year images, then see if I can create a zone for their placement, do I need a fixtional player for it? I could use the one I have for FlyoverOnly territories.... then the changing of should be the easiest part ... )
