Donation Drive 2024

@airwalker I did not print nor add that to the lobby
-
@airwalker but it is accurate
-
@ all Ty for the sudden 800 in donations. We should have enough cash to last till June. THE REAL ? IS DO WE KEEP THE LADDER? Another 200 bucks
-
I have setup a monthly contribution of $10/month.
-
@prastle I would suggest crediting the supporters of the game and make a decision from there. If you find most of the donations come from players that play a particular map the ladder may not be very useful to them.
-
@eyeswideshut-0 I just donated 100 myself.
NOTE******
The ONLY reason I knew about the need was someone came into my game and posted something. I think the majority of your users actively playing are NOT reading these forums. I HIGHLY recommend having a mod occasionally post the donation link and needs....so many peopel don't know about this.
Also, is there any info/guide on map edditing, or some program? I know a few people are interested in editing/expanding/fixing some maps to create new versions but not sure where to start?
-
@prastle not even sure did u see this?
-

Correct. Some more information.
https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/blob/master/docs/map-making/tutorial/creating-custom-map-xml.md
https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/blob/master/docs/map-making/tutorial/map-and-map-skin-making.md(Some information may be outdated: I don't know.)
The official tutorial map of TripleA for map-makers (as @beelee already wrote) is
https://github.com/triplea-maps/the_pact_of_steelwhose tutorial game file is
https://github.com/triplea-maps/the_pact_of_steel/blob/master/map/games/pact_of_steel_2.xmlIf you want to change only the game and not the map (basically more or less like when you make "house rules" in a physical boardgame without changing anything which comes with the box, like deciding to increase the defence value of "infantry" from 2 to 4, for example), you can limit yourself changing the game file, in the "games" folder of the map, with a text editor.
Be sure to change the name of the game before making any changes to it (because you need to make clear that it is not the original, but something you modified).
Feel free to post in the "Map Making" section for anything more on the matter.

I still cannot donate. I tried with my credit card. The system will not take it. Sorry.
-
When I click the final button to "Create Account and Donate" it does nothing.
-
@ngmc you need to donate through Paypal. I have never tried the new credit card setup. I am unsure if that works. Just pay through Paypal and use your credit card if you wish.
-
@rogercooper Thanks RG we have two monthly donations now I believe but ill double check. Sadly paypal robs us of a percentage every payment. Thus it is actually better for a lump sum donation than monthly. l will get back to you with the costs shortly. I mainly noticed it on the lower sums. This was why I raised the min to 5 bucks on paypal. (edited in --5bucks costs us 49 cents. 10 bucks costs us 69 cents. 50 bucks costs us 2,25 . 100 costs us 4.00 bucks)
-
@prastle Out of all the donations we have received since Dec 10th 2023 there were only these notes attached ... I will try to cross reference all these email addresses against our database to identify users. BUT! if your payment was through a diff email registered for your payments we have no idea who you are! Thus PLEASE ATTACH AN FFING NOTE TO YOUR DONATION THROUGH PAYPAL! It makes life a lot simpler.
These players are listed here.

Roger CooperCurrently TripleA has just over 1g in the paypal account ... I would like to point out that $975 was recieved in the last 20 days. WOW! We are halfway towards our Goal of 2 g. Realistically $1700 if we remove the ladder. Thanks again to ALL!
-
@prastle Unfortunately, I do not have a Paypal account.
-
@prastle amazing! I'll donate more in the event we need a good "kicker" to hit the 2k mark. Some of these creative ideas like a donation-based subscription makes a lot of sense as it would maintain a more regularized cash flow as opposed to emergency pleas :). With that said, I don't have any problems with the current outcry at the triplea lobby as it pushes for urgency.
@prastle @ubernaut @airwalker, re: ladder. @airwalker has established a credible ladder that's not website based (it is an open source google doc where players immediately post their results, but only for liveplay). My concern for airwalker is that the maintenance upkeep must be too much without a website. He's effectively doing it all alone -- a position I don't find too admirable.
-
@ngmc you dont need one use this button:!
-
@eyeswideshut-0 yeah the only issue is there would be no way to enter his records into the new site which is ready to go already

I don't think this can be underrated. The TripleA community remains strong, will remain strong! Thank you everyone for pitching in. More is better, but at least we won't be turning off bots in a month.
I would like to speak to the finances a bit as the concern has been raised. We have three sources of cost:
- DNS domain that we purchased (IIRC I payed for 10 years of this, not an issue until I think 2026)
- Ladder (that Uber & Prastle have been working on)
- Linode (servers)
Out of linode, there are four types of servers:
- lobby
- forum
- bots
- MARTI dice roller
Here is a breakdown from our last invoice:
FWIW, $5/month for a 1-core cloud instance is the best rate that I know of. AWS, Azure, Google are each more expensive than that (AFAIK)
We do have some opportunity for cost savings:
- immediately the backups of the old lobby can be discontinued, saving $5
- if we rewrite the marti dice server, we can put that new application on an existing server and then turn off 'old lobby running marti' , saving $24
- some of the bots are not running very well right now, cleaning them up and removing one would save another $5
- There is a medium/long term plan to change the 'bot' technology (network relay); potentially removing the need for more bot servers
Overall, we're now at $97/month, looks like we can get down to $68/month if we can execute on that dice server move.

@ubernaut I have tried to use that button several times. After I've entered all my information and click on "Create Account and Donate", it does nothing.
