Why don't naval units constantly bomb enemy shores?
-
Also why can't land units sink enemy ships?
-
@Schulz probably don't have the range. Guns aren't big enough to reach : )
Idk, but would think you could use the AA thingy to do it. After all, planes can : )
-
Soem guns would be able to sink ships. This feature wouldn't be too unrealistic
-
During WW2, for example, battleship bombardment was problematic because sustained firing of the big guns wore them out.
As to gun size, in those days, large standard land artillery (15 cm) would be the same as DD guns (6"). Battleship guns were 3x the size. But ... Guns of Navarone
Today, of course, it's about cruise missiles. Here I would give the advantage to ships, because they can fire at fixed targets from ... where did that come from?
-
@Schulz yea some would. Just meant ships tend to have bigger ones. The battleships anyway. Although there were some land monsters out there as well.
But you should be able to do this. I don't remember without checking and redrum just made the AA even more kick ass, but yea, pretty sure you can do this

In Age of Tribes, Mortars and Missile Launchers are land units that can sink enemy ships.
-
Just because it isn't in a game you've tried... doesn't mean it isn't possible.
-
Is making naval units constantly bomb enemy shores possible in the current engine?
-
@Schulz
You cannot initiate a battle where ships can bombard enemy shores normally unless there is an amphibious assault.Look at Age of Tribes if you want to see an indirect way for land/sea units to hit each other.

You cannot initiate a battle where ships can bombard enemy shores normally unless there is an amphibious assault. While it is true that the 'Bombard' itself has some limitations, you can achieve this mechanic with the current engine. Why or whether you would ever want to is an entirely different question.

I am moving this thread to Help and Questions as I dont see a direct request for a new feature.
-
I'm more wondering why shores full of artillery aren't bombing enemy ships bombing them
One of the reasons I can't play some maps is this 20 BB bombardment bullshit. I mean I'd be fine with it if my atlantic wall could shoot back. But since it can't, nooooooooooooooooooo.
-
@Ondis Very valid points... also if you were to have unlimited ongoing shore bombardment how would your troops ever land? I guess you could then have 50% of any casualties go towards the attackers amphibious landed troops.

IF I CAN'T TAKE THIS SHORE, THIS SHORE WILL NOT EXIST!
And so began the new phase of TripleA development, introducing the brand new "destructable territories" function.
Never liked those Smug Frenchies? Bomb them out of their baguette eating, snail slurping, wine swirling butts out of existence!
Now part of the DLC "Stalins Summer" where you build your own little farm-dacha in the sun, micromanaging all the crops you stole from the Ukranians!
(Sorry , I don't know what im talking about)
