Could we organise a tournament or two during the corona crisis?
-
Let's go with 1 tournament then, the one that gets most votes.
This tournament, especially the global one, would have to be live. Though players could of course decide to play PBEM within the given timeframe if they feel they can accomplish it or if they want to do a few turns between live sessions for example.I think it should be based on fait accompli.
The standard is Live. If both agree to PBEM its up to both to make it within the deadline or the one with most points (either vc or unit value?) by the end of the full turn wins? -

@Ondis
idk having a tourney live play only doesn't seem feasible. Especially Global.
I think the Deltium Tourneys allowed for live play but forum was how a lot of it played out.I would use his setup as a base since it's been used successfully here, but...since I haven't played in one...
-
@Raville Have a look here!
-
Thanks @prastle I already voted
-
I would participate and donate 20 bucks.
But I wont be able to play live. I can do my turns fast by pbem or by forum, but I need to do other things during the day. Hate Real life
Are there Rules in the end to check who is the winner, I guess a global game wont be finished after 30 Days?! -

@Panther these are the current v3-41 anniversary rules for tournaments can you see any updates that would be needed and do you think they would be suitable for global as well?
https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/394/triplea-rules-for-anniversary-edition-tournamentsI'll look into it.

Oh I dont mean live as everyone playing at the same time. Live as in you have 20 days to finish your game or something like this and the default mode is live, who ever youre playing with you agree on when to play. So 20 days for each bracket, say 4-5 brackets , ending in about 80-100 days rather than 1 year
But we can poll that later too, np for me either way.

IT could either be decided by a judge in the case of say somebody stalling or by units or VCs if it's an equal game.

https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/394/triplea-rules-for-anniversary-edition-tournamentsSome observations after a quick glance:
Concerning v3:
-
The links to Rulebook and FAQ point to outdated documents.
The most recent version of the FAQ dates from September, 2013, and the latest rulebook print (containing most of the FAQ) was issued with the game reprint in Autumn 2017. -
In case players agree on using Technology, LHTR Heavy Bombers must be kept active in order to play correctly as Heavy Bombers in v3 work like this:
"You roll two dice for each bomber and select the best result when you attack or make a
strategic bombing raid. On defense, your bombers still roll only a single die." -
Kamikaze is (active or not) not part of v3 ruleset. But I suppose "Kamikaze airplanes" here means something different from Kamikaze in Global.
...
Concerning Global:
- Most of the v3-tournament rules can be copy-pasted for Global.
- The victory conditions should be adjusted.
- To be as rules compliant as possible, the map defaults shoud be kept as they are.
- It cannot be emphasized enough that the most important responsability for the players is "Know The Rules".
- As with other rulesets, TripleA is sometimes misleading with regards to the implementation of some rules, so documents to "know the rules" are Rulebooks, FAQ-Sheets and - very important - TripleA Global game notes.
- Maybe leave out the rules Q+A as listed for v3 in possible Global Tournament rules. Otherwise - for Global - you won't know where to stop that list.
- Note that Global games usually take much longer than v3 games.
...
This is for a start... I will maybe add possible issues anytime later.

Kamikaze there merely means sending air units (attacking normally) without being able to (have a chance to) land them. I would suggest updating that part of the rules by @Deltium you linked as not using the term kamikaze, to avoid confusion. However, this option it TripleA is actually called "Kamikaze Airplanes", and has nothing to do with the other option, called "Use Kamikaze Suicide Attacks", you have in mind.
Probably, we should have better changed the "Kamikaze Airplanes" property name, back in 1.9, when we changed a bunch of stuff.

Thank you for that timeline @Ondis
We should consider the the 2.0 timeline and try to work together so the timing works out.
2.0 is anywhere from 10 to 30 days from a soft launch.
At soft launch:- 2.0 lobby server will be up
- 2.0 lobby will have bots
- We'll advertise in lobby that 2.0 is in early access
Perhaps 3-7 days after soft launch, assuming no major problems delay us, we'll enter into 'hard launch'
At hard launch:- We'll trigger the in-game messaging that "your version of triplea is out of date, please upgrade"
- The official website download link will be updated to 2.0
- In lobby we'll ask players to start new games in 2.0 and to start migrating
- Any accounts created in 1.9 will need to be re-created in 2.0 and will not be migrated
- We'll reduce 1.9 bot capacity probably by about half to two thirds
At 10 days post-hard launch, we'll likely reduce bot capacity further and increase the urgency in the lobby messaging that all new games should be 2.0
At about 30 days post-hard launch we'll turn off probably all but one or two bot servers in 1.9
At about 45-60 days post hard-launch, the 1.9 lobby will be turned off.
Bottom line, the 1.9 lobby is anywhere from 33-66 days before we see reduced bot capacity and 50-80 days before it is turned off.
If that timeline does not work out, we can perhaps try to bring 2.0 forward perhaps. I realize this might be taking the wind out of our sails here, we just need to plan and talk through this to make sure we all lines up on the schedule.

@Panther
yea i was thinking maybe a highlight of triplea's most obvious non rule compliant stuff would be good to have listed before game starts with the link to all of them posted there as well.Sorry I didn't word that real good
I may do a scan and see what I can come up with. Idk just the real obvious stuff I guess. Then players could refer to it if in doubt.
I guess maybe just an update of what is already available

We have at least:
-
@LaFayette I am happy that we are finally close to a new stable release but does this mean no tournaments until a release? Thus everyone back to work hopefully (instead of being bored out of there skulls) before the next tournament?
-
Where can i find the poll so that i can vote?
Thanks -
@fatoumas 1st topic post.
-
Bump? Haha
Nah I dunno, since we're running TOC it might be a bit much to run this too.
Also corona is kinda closing out anyway
