Are you on 13066 ? or the new 2.0xxx prerelease ? Also what type java and OS ? I'm not real good at this but @Panther and @RoiEX are. Someone will help.

It is the other guy I am trying to play with. He should have been on 13066, had the error, then re-installed (probably to 2.0), still had the error.

So playing by forum then ? The other guys are in Europe so probably sleeping. Maybe @LaFayette or @redrum will have time to look in ?

Welcome. It would be helpful if "the other guy" posted the complete error message. Also we might need some more details.
Maybe you can encourage him to join for resolving his problem?

Also I'd like to point out that in order to play multiplayer in any shape or form all players have to use the same version to prevent errors
