Color issue with Politics Panel aka Politics Screen

How about something like this instead (I'm not a developer.)?

-
You know my opinion on this

-
@xxXEddieXxx Actually, no. My previous proposal was more like this:

-
Thats perfect imo . I was thinking of what color to use for neutrality and I honestly couldnt think of a better one. Gray is better, but white text doesnt work for it unless very dark and the dark default color for TripleA is already dark gray. Changingit to blackbreakst the theme a bit.
-
Still not a fan of the yellow though. My main issue is that it grabs way too much attention. Neutral is basically the "nothing's happening here" state, but right now those cells are the loudest thing on the screen. When I open the panel I want to see who's at war and who's allied at a glance, and the yellow kind of drowns that out, especially since there are so many neutral cells.

@Ondis
The contrast is way below the minimum recommended for normal text (WCAG asks for 4.5:1, white on yellow doesn't come close).white on the yellow is about 2.8:1 (and 1.4:1 on the brighter one)

@xxXEddieXxx I dont know if we are doing accessibility based design here

My thought was to use dark blue but it just wont look good enough.
For color blind people this design choice will be just as bad/good as we've all had it for 10 + years which means workable.But it would always be nice if there was a button for colorblindness that flips what ever colorsare necessary to something with more contrast.
If we want it accessible we should go with belees option though, black on yellow with small text just doesnt look good. But black on light gray can work.

@Ondis
contrast isn't really just an accessibility niche thing. It helps way more people than you'd think. There are billions of people with some kind of vision impairment, and contrast sensitivity drops with age anyway. Add players on a dim laptop, a cheap monitor or a phone, and the small text in those cells gets hard to read for a lot of people. So I'd see it less as "accessibility design" and more as just making the panel readable. The WCAG gives good guidance here.the latest update actually added a colourblind setting, right next to the UI setting. So that part is already covered.
We also threw around ideas with more colours then 3. Blue would be an awesome colour same as purple.

Gray is better, but white text doesnt work for it unless very dark and the dark default color for TripleA is already dark gray.I think that middle-way grey (meaning exactly in the middle between white and black) works with either black and white text. Example:

Neutral is basically the "nothing's happening here" state
Then I would imagine you would suggest using exactly the same colour as the TripleA default colour for impassables, which is functionally the closest to neutrality.
This is that colour (according to 2.3.22161 https://triplea-game.org/release_notes/) but darkened in the middle of the values of Red and Green:

Neutral is basically the "nothing's happening here" state
I'll do some nit-picking (because here it is clear you are talking about Neutrality as a state, not about Neutral as a player), but let's not confuse Neutral and Neutrality. Neutral in TripleA usually refers to the Neutral player, which is always at War with everyone. Neutral has nothing to do with Neutrality. (Yes, the archetype of Neutrality is "neutral", so "neutral" can be either the archetype of the Neutrality relationship here as well as the Neutral player which is always at War with everyone.)

@xxXEddieXxx Neutrality is not a "nothing's happening" relationship. That is the Neutral player (always at war with everyone) or a player assigned to Does Nothing AI.
Neutrality can be used to depict a situation like two unfriendly countries fighting against a common enemy. For example, if you would want to depict America, Britain and Russia fighting against Germany (assuming there are only these 4 players for simplicity) but with the rule that America/Britain and Russia cannot send units in each other's land territories (which is almost historically correct), you would set Allied for America and Britain, Neutrality for America and Russia and for Britain and Russia and War for everyone else.
In this case, Neutrality is practically "Almost Allied" or Allied with restrictions. (For example, their fleets will be able to defend together just like if Allied.)
