What Version and Why?
-
I use 14962 because I haven't had any problems with it.
So the map doesn't center again ? Seems as if it's been fixed several times already

I don't want to invest a ton of time in a game and then have it crash not work mid or late game. So far I haven't had that problem with 14962.
Obviously the latest pre needs to be tested but I'd keep it to if it fires up and solves whatever problem there was or adds a new feature that works ... not invest an entire game in it.

Thank you for your reply.
2.7.14962 was released back in March. @frigoref has put in a lot of time in development of the TripleA engine. If no one is going to test his work, we may lose him as a developer and there not that many developers here.
Continuing to use a version that is over 6 months old, IMO, defeats the purpose of having more releases than we will never get that 2.7+ stable without testing.
Unless of course 2.7.14962 is released as a stable engine with its continued use.These are my options, I'm not trying to say you're wrong. I do understand what you are saying. I just feel sorry for @frigoref, it seems he is spending a lot of time, but no one cares about his work.
Don't take this the wrong way. I hope that we can still be friends.
Cheers...

I care about his work. Didn't say I never use the prerelease. I don't play games with it. just test.
I interact on git with him when I think it's appropriate and upvote his PRs even if there closed so he knows someone at least read his stuff

My mistake then, hope you'll accept my apology.

Between @TheDog and you, both seem to have most interaction on this form and GitHub.Cheers...

No apology necessary.
To clarify most, actually all the people I game with, have a later engine version than 14962. So it also gets tested with whatever one they're using.
Yes. I agree the latest pre needs to be tested and I have tested some but I'm not gonna test it while playing a game I invest 50-100 hours in.
So that's the version I use and why

I will sort of answer the title question for the silent majority.
The minimum version required to play
1941 Global Command Decision is 2.7.14848
1888A 1888A Steam & Steel is 2.7.14848On both of the above 1st posts - Official Threads I have linked to
https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/releases/tag/2.7.15032So this might be a popular version only because there are links to it.
1941 GCD still has a few thousand views per day, I know because I track it
so this a popular map.It would be good for TripleA if we could have a pre-release link on say this page.
https://triplea-game.org/download/The question I guess is in the title, what version and why?

... leading to the latest pre-release.
Don't your maps work with the latest?

On axisandallies. org players seem to use everything from 2.5.stable - 2.6.whatever - 2.7.whatever - 2.7.latest.
The interest in the development of this software is less pronounced, there. Players just search a working version to play by forum.

@panther
I should of said a stable version, as the current latest is not a stable version. -

IMHO that would be 2.7.15025, which was released on May 6. This is the last version that centers on the active player's capital. All versions from 2.7.15027, including @TheDog's linked 2.7.15032, should be considered 'not stable'.
How 'stable' is 2.7.15025? I don't know, I haven't test it, it's a 6 month old release. @beelee stated that 2.7.14962 has been working 'just fine' for him and his group, so maybe that version should be considered 'most stable' 2.7+ pre-release.
This is why I started this topic.
2.5.22264 current stable release.
2.7.14962 tested stable 2.7+ pre-release.
2.7.15025 last 2.7+ pre-release that 'centered' but has not been heavily tested.
2.7.15278 last 2.7+ pre-release has many issues.
2.7.15279+ only allow for the downloading of the source code, which would need to be compiled prior to testing.
The above is my opinion about the condition of the TripleA engine. Since I've been here TripleA has always centered on the active players' capital at the start of that player's turn. If this feature is to be removed, then okay, it should be plainly stated that centering has been removed. Otherwise, everything after 2.7.15025 should be considered buggy and not stable.
I can be wrong, and more than likely I am, in my opinion. Which, again, is why I asked which version and why.
My thanks to @TheDog, @Panther and @beelee for all their thoughts and opinions.Cheers...

I am sure that something unwanted has broken the creation of the binaries.
@frigoref , @LaFayette , @RoiEX : Can you take a look, please?

Issue filed:
https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/issues/13899 -
The binaries are back, as @LaFayette took care of the issue.

@panther
Thank you and @LaFayette for looking into and talking care of this.Happy Thanksgiving to both and your families.
Cheers...

2.7.15256
Technology tab split from players tab on to its own tab. (Really good for 1888a as it has a lot of Tech)
https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/releases/tag/2.7.15256 -
Is there a tradeoff ? Last time the edit hot key quit working
-
@beelee
For Windows Ctrl+E (Edit mode) works, in both 2.7.15025 & 2.7.15256
Is that the question? -
-
@beelee
But only for Linux? -
I think it was for all OS but it got fixed
