@LaFayette ok well a few hours to a few weeks is not a great message to putting out there tbh. it also sounds you dont currently actually even want a flood of updates.
i guess there is no ability send update notifications in the pre 2.6 clients so i suppose everyone will just find out when it happens to them.
btw im not getting notified of your replies bc you are replying to the thread.

@LaFayette i guess just notify me/us when you shut them off then and i will post about that after it happens still think we should have some overlap and still willing to pay for an extra month if it helps smooth things over.

The willingness to pay is appreciated, but it's more if we carry the old dice server forward for another month, then why not another 3 months? When does it end?
A) we need the new server vetted out.
B) Really, we need that money going to the main servers. I need to check in with Prastle, but I think we're broke right now.The old dice server is $25/month only because it's so old, Linode has been raising the price on us because of it. Since we can't migrate the code off, we've been stuck. It is looking pretty positive so far that 2026-06 is going to last.

@LaFayette i hear you about where do you draw the line but any amount of warning is better than none imo. that’s why i’m suggesting something vague like “we expect to shut down the old servers within the next 2 weeks" or something then even if we do it earlier it not like we promised 2 weeks.

Either the old dice server will be shut down like tomorrow, or it'll be a month from now. I'm guessing will be tomorrow at this rate.

@ubernaut I'd maybe frame this as a major, required, and backward compatible release. It's required so we can discontinue old resources that are costing the project a significant fraction of our total expenses.
Downgrading the lobby will save $10/month and removing old MARTI will be $25/month (in exchange for new MARTI that costs $5/month).
There's no reason I can think of to not upgrade. Maybe worth mentioning that save games are expected to work well (but maps are looking to be a problem area and may need re-install)

@ubernaut Thanks. I'm pretty certain at this point we'll turn off old dice server and trigger the in-game update notification. I'm not entirely sure when we'll turn off the old lobby exactly.

Don't always trust TripleA when it comes to rules questions. Know the rules before you start … and better check what TripleA has done.

You might also add that multi emails won't work anymore. Teams will need to pick a Captain to receive them.

@ubernaut Thanks, the 2.5 update messaging has been triggered as well, the 2.5 lobby is now effectively disabled as well (not turned off, but 2.5 clients won't be able to reach it without using the "test" settings and explicitly specifying the 2.5 server host)

The good news is that emails land in gmail-accounts again (let's see how long).
The dice-email go to the spam-folder - but that's easy to handle! -
So basically just register your marti email with the new dice server and you're good to go ?
