All - a few of you who are new to PBEM have asked for step-by-step instructions on how to play PBEM. OK, here you go !!

The process to play PBEM is very simple. First, you just need to register on the Marti dice server. This will allow you to get the dice rolls for each and every round of battle. The link is here:

        https://dice.marti.triplea-game.org/

        <edited per this post: https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/4253/play-by-email-dice-verification-concerns/9>

To START playing PBEM and to initiate a NEW PBEM game, start here.

If you your game has already started, then skip to the section below.

        INITIAL PBEM SETUP

        1. First, ensure that you have the correct map selected by clicking on "Select Map"

        2. Next, click on "Map Options" and input all of the various options, including the IPCs for the bid, victory conditions, Regular Luck vs. Low Luck, etc.

        3. Next, click on "Start PBEM" (note - do NOT click on on "Start Local Game")

        4. In the Dice Server section, ensure that "dice.tripleawarclub.org" is selected.

        5. Enter YOUR email address in the "To:" section and your OPPONENT's email address in the "Cc" section

        6. For the Game ID, you can input any description that you prefer, e.g. "Player X versus Player Y" You do not need a specific Game ID # or anything like that. This is just a description.

        7. When you finish completing this section, click on "Test Server". IF you receive an error message, either YOU or your YOUR OPPONENT is NOT registered on Marti. Once you are both registered on Marti, you will automatically receive a test Marti die ranging from 1-6. Both players should receive this email from Marti indicating that you are now ready to start receiving dice results from battles, etc.

        8. Next, click on the drop-down menu item for Play by Email -- select Gmail. Note: we suggest that you use gmail, as other email address like yahoo, hotmail, and international domains tend to cause problems with the server. Many players use a gmail account just for playing TripleA games and keep their regular email address for non-TripleA items, which is recommended.

        9. In the subject field, type the same or similar description to what you typed in the Game ID section for the Dice Server, e.g. "Player X vs. Player Y"

        10. In the the "To" field, enter your email address SEPARATED BY ONE SPACE (and not commas or semicolons) followed by your opponent's email address

        11. In the Login filed, enter YOUR email address

        12. In the Password field, type YOUR gmail password

        13. Click on the "Remember Me" field

        14. Click on "Test Email" -- if you do NOT receive an error message, then GREAT! HOWEVER, it is VERY COMMON to receive an ERROR message. Don't worry -- gmail has a normal security protocol to require the user to manually accept 3rd party applications to access its gmail server with your password. You should receive an error message with a link for instructions to activate this, and just follow the instructions to grant access. NOTE -- if this is too cumbersome for you, then simply skip this step, as there is a back-up solution.

        15. Next, click on "Play" at the bottom of the page.

        16. You are now able to make your builds, your combat & non-combat moves, etc.

        17. At the END of your turn -- you have 2 options:

        (a) if you successfully sent a test email in Step #14, then click on "Post Turn Summary" and the entire game file and a nice summary will be sent automatically to your opponent.

        (b) however, if you received an error message in step #14 above, then simply click on "File" and then on "Save" to save the game file to your desktop, or a specific file folder, for example. Then, write an email to your opponent, and attach the game file as you would attach any other attachment, and simply send it to your opponent.

You and your opponent can then continue to send the game file back and forth using the instructions below.

        ONGOING PBEM INSTRUCTIONS

** Note -- this assumes that you have the initial game file setup and have already started your game **

        1. Download the game file that your opponent sends to you in an easy to find folder or desktop.

        2. Start TripleA software

        3. click "open saved game"

        4. click on the file and then click "open"

        5. Try following steps #8-14 above, and whether or not that works, go to step #6 below

        6. click on "play"

        7. After that, you just play as normal, make your moves, etc.

        8. at the END of your turn, click on "File" and the "save" to save the file to a specific folder or desktop

        9. compose an email message to your opponent and attach the same game file and send it back to your opponent in an email !

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know, and I am happy to play a few sample moves with you by PBEM if you need assistance. My email = 5683deltium@gmail.com

        Cheers, Deltium

                    Hi players,0_1518793607978_TOC12_epi-craig-Jp4.tsvg

i won my first round game against Craig. His Axis went for 8 Bid and placed a second Transport in sz14. My Allies attacked all rounds the coasts of Europe and defeated the north-sea fleet with some lucky rolls for free, so Berlin was early under pressure. Japan tried to involve USA in a pazific war and landed units in Hawaii and Alaska. So USA was more or less defending. But Russia and UK were to strong for Germany. So Germany only hold berlin and rome, trading in East-Europe, Balkans and West-Europe. In Round 4 Japan went for a last attack against Western-USA. Probably more for fun than for odds. Craig conceded.
Overall there was a lot of activity in this 4 rounds. Thank you Craig for the game.

                    Japan4 file attached.

                    Best, Epi

                      Hi,

I will resign from TOC no way to know if dice are standard. 4 out of 7 bombers got shot over aa, plus a rund of 4 rounds of hitting short vs long at a 90% rate for allies vs axis postion. Can't fight the dices, over 4 rounds avr roll for germany when up to 4.5 and russia avg. 1.4. and brits 3x more 1 and 2 then germany.
Nothing against you timelord but way too big off a sample too continue fighting dices. No more revised, not good for blood pressure. cheers hf all!

                        TimeLord vs Dany

I assume I won by surrender by Dany, from post above by Dany

GG Danny alot of those micro 1v1 battes were rough

But just a remainder you took Moscow at 30 percent

Just a game sometimes you win and lose on the dice

Dany is a very skilled player Just a note you had me considering surrendering mid game

                        Game save attached

                        Happy Hunting all

Dany - I just wrote you a detailed email, and I encourage you to stay in the tournament. A couple things which I need to state publicly for everyone to understand.

While I acknowledge that your particular dice were exceptionally frustrating and rare, it is about a 1 in 2200 event, which if you play a lot of A&A, is not a lot of dice. I easily roll several hundred unique dice in a full game (especially after big battles), and if you play enough games, you are simply going to have outcomes like this. I emphasize that the Marti dice server is indeed fair and absolutely separate and mutually exclusive from both players, which is why we use it. If you want, you can easily test the statistical accuracy by sampling the full set of dice over multiple RL games and tracking each and every dice result. A reasonable sample size of a few thousand dice should give you clear comfort that it is a fair dice server. We have done this before, and have not found any issues. Again, for emphasis, an individual event does not mean that the dice server is not fair.

Second, I encourage you NOT to quit. As everyone knows, this is a double-elimination tournament, and even if you lose a particular game, the benefit of the double-elimination is that you have a second chance, and don't forget -- the winner of the Loser's bracket plays the winner of the Winner's bracket in the FINALS !! If the winner of the Loser's bracket wins two games in a row, he/she is the Champion ! This definitely is a serious possibility so do not discount your chances to continue in the tournament simply due to one loss.

Please understand that losing from time to time is a fact of the game, and you can divide your losses into two categories, namely, (1) strategic losses, and (2) losses due to dice. HOWEVER, you should divide your wins into the same two categories, as we have all won games due to dice as well. Therefore, I recommend a portfolio approach to your set of games that you play. Over a long period, you will begin to see that MOST of your games that you lose are due to specific strategic or tactical errors, which your opponent took advantage of, and the number of games won or lost due to dice reduce considerably, but they do remain. Since we cannot control the dice, we must simply accept the fact that SOME of our losses will be due to the dice, and SOME of our wins will be due to dice. The REST (and majority therein) are within our control due to STRATEGY, which is why we play this wonderful game.

Lastly, for everyone's benefit, LL should be utilized in this tournament specifically to reduce the statistical noise of extreme outcomes. You can further activate LL for both the AA hits AND the territory damage. I encourage you all to do this in your next game, if this is a sensitive point for you.

                          Cheers, Deltium

KJF strategy. Germany was strong but not enough to take Russia. USA and UK fleets merged in the Mediterean sea, so there was not much of a path for KK to reverse course.

bayder (Allies) defeats frank_the_tank (Axis +9) by surrender in UK9, played mostly online with some PBEM turns. This game was defined by a G2 attack on the Allied fleet in sz12. The USA bomber had missed against a U-boat in USA1, so the Germans gambled and successfully flew a ftr from Lib over the AA in Alg, commencing an attack on sz12 that ended with the expected result: 1 ftr and 1 bomber surviving for Germany. This slowed the Allied naval expansion in the short-term, but also hindered G's ability to trade and to threaten SZ's later in the game. Japan rallied and stacked Persia a few times, resulting in bloody exchanges with the Russians. Ultimately, UK and USA put the squeeze on Europe until Berlin fell with Japan too far away from Moscow. Thank you frank, for the fast, fun, and friendly game!

Pannpall (Allies) defeats PaddyMaroon (Axis+8) by surrender in UK8. Germany placed the bid in Africa and bought a transport in round one. Uk attacked baltic fleet and managed to kill 2 trannies and 2 subs at the cost of 2ftrs. Jap bought 2 factories in round 1 but lost a carrier. Round 2 was a turning point because the German med bb managed to survive a US attack killing 2 ftrs and 1 bomber. Then Germany bought a carrier and a trannie in med which enabled them to trade Egypt and threaten allied navy. Meanwhile, Jap bought a third factory and starting pumping tanks. Germany was forced to trade EE, WE, belo, Ukraine but managed to assemble a moving stack that threatened west Russia and Caucasus. Jap managed to stack Persia. Finally on round 7 axis tried a combo attack against the well-defended Caucasus, Germany suffered grave losses but uk reinforced the terriority with tanks and planes so Jap attack also failed. After that Russia was saved while Germany was isolated and weak so axis surrendered. Overall it was a great game played online in two sessions. I would like to thank PaddyMaroon for the excellent communication we had which enabled us to play online even f we are in different time zones and I would like to congratulate him for a fun challenging and fast-paced game.0_1519158385383_paddy_vs_panpal_toc.tsvg
