    Updated the backup! We'll keep a 7 day window of rolling backups for the database (backup each day, remove backups older than 7 days), and we'll keep a single backup of the user-uploaded content (currently sitting at 14GB) Also made a robustness fix/patch with the docker config just now.

    @prastle the reason for discord is the live voice capability. It's a glorified phone call. Discord overall is good for that kind of thing, also good for getting quicker answers to questions. Though, forums will remain the place to be for a sustained, longer, more in depth conversation. A chat room like discord will tend to have very ephemeral topics, usually one at a time. While forum threads do fall off the top, they still stick around. Overall, discord will be a good place when you want to have a phone call, or a meeting, or a question answered in a couple hours or a day. Forums is best though for raising topics where you're happy accumulating a response days, maybe weeks later.

    @epinikion Just change it so that anyone who gives up before round 8 or something loses. Meaning the guy whose turn it is, if he doesnt play in x amount of days or what ever its a loss.

    32 Bit Windows Installer - (Possibly) Will No Longer be Available

    A quick update regarding 32 bit installers - looks like it is no longer even an option for us. Not even a choice now whether to include it or not. Details: I'm running some updates, and ran across our notes for how to bundle the 32 bit Java version for windows-32 bit installers: https://github.com/triplea-game/assets [image: 1745967815654-screenshot-from-2025-04-29-16-02-38.png] Basically, download the 32 bit JDK from some website (https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html) and do some re-packaging stuff. That website has JDKs only up to Java 16. So.. any next release would be on Java 17 or Java 21. It looks like a 32 bit installer is no longer even an option for us (unless someone can find a 32 bit JDK21 somewhere; I kinda suspect such a thing may not even exist now).

    Thanks @beelee and all for feedback & votes I think I'll tend to agree with the majority here. Bad things happen when rushed. Perhaps the next couple months will serve as an extended testing period - a very good thing. I reduced the number of 2.7 bot servers to two. That's a cost of $10/month and gives us 6 game instances in the meantime. I'll spin up a 2.7 'megathread' thread & link it in the lobby. Make the testing a bit more official.

    The 'EXIT_ON_GAME_END' flag is new in 2.7. All 2.7 lobby bots have this configured.     Hi I know there is a small group that go way long back, so I belive that must be the one you call "the regular players" Personal I been here for +10 years and play several that been atleast that long to and several other players wery regular players. just e play the big maps (waw, nml, nwo) so maybe you distingues between map groups. My belive is that there is a flow of come and go players and a steady group of players that stay for years. the problem in my eyes is not the walue of the site more that we are not good enough to spread the "word" just my point

    I also configured a manual database export to backup the forums information on a nightly basis.

    I disabled the linode server backup feature, that costs $2.50

    Trade-off:

    the user uploaded content is no longer backed up.

    Okay, that was frisky, but now done! The latest L&F looks a bit different..

    Upgrades:

    upgraded OS from Ubuntu 20.04 to 24.04 upgraded Forums Nodebb from v1.16.1 to v4.11.2.

    The new forums is no managed via automation! Some instructions at: https://github.com/triplea-game/infrastructure/blob/main/docs/forums.md

    Using the automation, I was able to very easily upgrade from 4.10 to 4.11, a very good sign going forward.

    Worthy of a mention, the NodeBB and MongoDB behind the forums are both running on docker containers. That will help up us patch and upgrade the OS, before we had to make sure that the OS and NodeBB+MongoDB stayed compatible. Now the two can be upgraded independently.
