      Will Triplea ever be mercenary?!

There aren't any plans right now AFAIK. I could imagine that at some point in the future we reward people with cosmetics for donating, but this is the far future, not something in sight.

Will Triplea always maintain its the oldest game mechanics?

Well while we won't remove any core mechanisms, adding new features isn't limited to anything, as long as it makes sense to exist.

Are people able to copy some Triplea features then implement them to their games?

Well in theory triplea itself is a "clone" of the A&A game that shall not be named itself.
As long as people respect the GPL, they are even allowed to use the code 1:1 https://tldrlegal.com/license/gnu-general-public-license-v3-(gpl-3)

        1. Will Triplea ever be mercenary?

Do you mean that if someone were willing to pay for the development of a feature, would that feature get higher priority or a guaranteed addition in a future release? I don't think I have the authority to answer that question, but I just want to clarify what you mean when you use the term mercenary in this context.

        1. Are people able to copy some Triplea features then implement them to their games?

TripleA is licensed under version 3 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv3). In a nutshell, this license permits you to redistribute or make changes to TripleA code (including copying the code into your own program) as long as you abide by the terms of the GPLv3. These terms typically require you to make your modified work also available under the terms of the GPLv3.

Let's say, for example, you have a great idea for a new set of rules that the TripleA devs cannot or will not support. You are free to fork the TripleA code and make whatever changes you like. However, if you ever decide to release your new-and-improved version to anyone but yourself, you have to follow the terms of the GPLv3. The big deal there is that you have to make the modified source code available--at no charge--to anyone who wants it. Note that "at no charge" doesn't mean you can't charge people to buy a compiled version of your game or to pay a fee to play your game online. It simply means you can't charge for access to the source code.

What if new feature requests contradict with core mechanisms? I think fog of war and simultaneous rounds would be implemented as optional but both of them istotally unorthodox.

I mean will Triplea always be free in any condition reglardless of popularity? This includes advertising revenues and user payments of maps and feature requests.

Did anybody ever pay developers for new features or maps/mods ?

And about license, Yes I have a game project that will be similar to Triplea and thank you informing me about GPLv3.

Well the GPL ensures that the source must be licensed open source all of the time, so even the payment model will be changed to a payment-required one, users will always be able to build their own system from source.

Did anybody ever pay developers for new features or maps/mods ?

Not as far as I'm aware of. I got an offer though a while back.
But I wouldn't see this as a problem though: The reason I haven't accepted it, is because this would require me to have some sort of schedule. And triplea will stay just a Hobby for me, nothing I want to earn money with.

@Schulz Some mechanics would change the game so much that it would be better to create an entirely new engine. I think that that would rule out simultaneous movement. Basic fog of war such as enemy units being invisible is doable but more significant fog of war would be an issue.
