@redrum said in WW2 Pacific 1940 2nd Ed - Triggers for AI to Unprovoked Declare War?: @sculpt I don't recall if its number of adjacent enemy territories or number of adjacent enemy territories that can be successfully attacked or both contribute. I actually developed the TripleA AI so that is how I figured it out Well, let me ask it this way: regarding Pacific, in your expert opinion, what would be the best tactics for Japan to forestall the British/ANZAC, and especially the US, from declaring Unprovoked War on Japan? Right now, they're declaring rd 2 or 3 at best. Naturally, I'm trying to take all China & not provoke Allied attack as long as possible. As I mentioned, the number of adjacent enemy territories has remained fairly constant, only the number of Japanese territories have increased, & it's Production. I kept Jap ships away from Allied territory and ships, assuming that would increase Unprovoked Attack. Not sure if leaving Jap islands and coast undefended increases chance of attack? What if I was more threatening to British or ANZAC? Would that make Unprovoked Attack less likely? Thanks!

@panther said in WW2 Pacific 1940 2nd Ed - Why Russia as is?: @sculpt Kiangsu is originally controlled by China. When the game starts, it has been already captured by Japan. See page 8, first paragraph of the Pacific 1940 2nd.ed. rulebook. The same with Manchuria. I tested building Major Industrial Complexes as Japan in both territories - and the engine correctly prohibited placing those factories in either territory. I'm sorry! You're right, I totally missed that (I was skimming the 40 pages). It could hardly be more clear than that, "When the rules refer to the “original controller” of a territory, they mean the power whose emblem is printed on the territory. (A few territories in China have a Chinese emblem on them but are controlled by Japan at the start of the game. These territories are considered to belong to China originally, but have been captured by Japan.)" Actually, the game allowed me to put a Major Industrial Complex in Korea, and I thought it was allowing one in Manchuria as well, but it doesn't. Sorry about my mistake, and thanks for info!

@beelee Thank you for your reply, Beelee. I checked out the link/thread and it seems that the AI cannot add extra "cheat" units...lol...I will follow the advice of Admin Redrum (above) and do an actual count next game and upload my saved game if there are any additional units--if I can figure out how to upload...lol...I have been using forums once in a while since the 90's but still not savvy...ha! It just seems that when I am playing Axis against the Allies, Russia always seems to have too many infantry, artillery and tanks and and the US has Way too many fighters... Anyhow, thanks again and good gaming to you!

@ssoloff The current stable still hasn't @LaFayette's ClientSettings overhaul, e.g. the client settings are stored somewhere else. While the current stable still gets the lobby server IP from the config file, the latest version loads it from the client settings. Had the same issue as well during testing ^^

@mrblackwell This page is outdated, but it should be still enough to get you started (not everything is anymore like in the videos; in particular, now TripleA has no maps to start with): https://www.tripleawarclub.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=1940 My suggestion, once you installed TripleA, is to try it first a few times against the AI: Click on "Download Maps" and download "World War II Revised" in "High Quality". Click on "Start Local Game". Select "Fast AI" in "Type" for any player "Name" you don't want to play yourself. Also maybe check out "The Pact of Steel" in "Download Maps"; it's a rework of Revised, community made.

@davidrobinson Don't forget to upgrade to version 2.1.1, if you are still in 2.1.0. It was released at the end of July of this year.

@AARommel You can either go to the forum section: https://forums.triplea-game.org/category/21/play-by-email. Or check out A&Aorg: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?board=52.0. Most folks prefer play-by-forum over play-by-email now but they are very similar.

@Grimalkinii that was my next question Have you checked to see if your maps need updating Hmm networked maybe live no. But you do both need to have the same stable engine and map version to launch live! Thus I would guess the same is needed in a networked game. I haven't played a networked game in hmm, omg, 9 years at least with triplea. Back then the maps came in the download. Also to note! With the new engine you do not have to delete. Just use the in game downloader and check for updates. If you need an update it overwites the old map file. Sadly it only checks itself on the first of the month. If you click ignore it doesnt check for another month. JFYI GLHF glad ya got it fixed

@ssoloff Yes, the problem only occurs when trying to connect to player hosted games. I opened an issue on github here (https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/issues/2192). Sorry for not responding for a while.

Screenshots of this issue would be good, we could include that with the download instructions and hopefully future users would not be caught blindsided by this.

Looks identical to the error reported here. You can follow progress on fixing it at https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/issues/2133 (please feel free to add any additional information you think is useful to that ticket).

To be clear, I just meant I would have no / remove all AI bonuses default on the pure PvP maps. I wasn't talking about the maps having also an AI component (either AI Challenges or hybrid PvP+AI, like "Age of Tribes : Primeval" or "Total Ancient War"). Of course, the maps meant to be played with AI should have bonuses, but, especially considering that you can never be sure what the developers will do with the engine, maybe it might be the wisest to, either: 1- Just do a balanced map in that case too, and just be sure to tell the gamers that they are supposed to give bonuses to all or some AI players. 2- Not relying on standard Income bonuses at all, but do it with triggers, giving units / income / etc., as that would be the safest, and would allow to, then, use the bonuses on top on it, from default values. 3- Relying on no bonuses at all, but just on a purposely unbalanced starting setup. But the cases 2 and 3 are still challenging. Simple example: You make a very challenging / closely balanced "AI Challenge" map, then a developer improves the AI a lot, and that map becomes just unwinnable. Ideally, if the AI would be about as good as the best players, perfectly supporting whatever features, the conceptual difference between what is a "PvP" and what is an "AI Challenge" map would just disappear, but, of course, noone is expecting that. Just a bunch of general opinions.

@dokilen said in No Operation Unthinkable Map?!?: Operation Unthinkable On this site is a big collection of maps including many older ones: http://www.rogercooper.com/AxisAlliesTriple-AComputerVersion.htm The Iron Blitz download includes some scenarios similar to Operation Unthinkable: http://axisandallies.wikia.com/wiki/1945B_Aggressive_Russia These are not compatible with latest version of TripleA You could: -Use older version of TripleA -Update them yourselves if you know how -Ask Roger Cooper to update them: https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/120/conversions-to-version-1-9 -Create your own Mod in any of the existing maps. Modding is not very hard. Especially if you're only changing unit placement, territory ownership and Alliances. NWO mod for this scenario would be cool.
